Concept:
The improvisational dance performance version was created based on "Re-created Sensation with Re-embodied Material", as one of 12 practices of the collaborative dance exhibition and installation project "What Happened in Kalix." that was created in 2022 by Chang Liu (Leo) and Lander Casiers supported by Norrdans and hosted by Kulturmagasinet Sundsvall. It recalls a captured unique moment in time, researching the connections between movement, memory, and shared experiences. It began unexpectedly during a warm-up class before a performance when an unexpected connection among people arose, creating a shared experience without any predefined goals.
At its core, "What Happened in Kalix." is a platform for recording and reliving the emotions and atmosphere of that one day. This project brings into focus the importance of remembering what it is in our experiences that we want to hold onto, inviting participants to engage in a range of activities intended to bring about memories, sensations, and reflections. Through a diversity of innovative methods-sensory materials, figurative representations, and collaborative documentation-this project aims to reconstruct both the physical and emotional topography of Kalix. The project initiates a discussion about our experiences and the ongoing evolution of our relationship with this place.
By asking, "What do you want to keep?" we invite participants to contemplate the significance of memory and documentation in shaping our identities and relationships. This exploration is not just a retrospective look at Kalix but a living inquiry into how we embody, share, and preserve our artistic practices.
